Philosophy – how to cope with (your own) death

When he turned 70, he immediately became terrified of dying. After a year or two he started to enjoy still being alive. Now, soon to be over 75, he’d moved from over-70 post-terror hedonism to a philosophical point of view. Hedonism seemed unseemly. Greed for life was bad. Death still scared the fuck out of him, but less so: he felt he could stop clinging on to life like some greedy old get. Facing 80 was horrific. (Apologies to those aged 80 and over, he thought. Then he thought, No, actually, fuck you. Fuck off and die, you greedy old gets.) Facing 80 was bad, but not so bad with his new philosophical point of view. Good luck with that, he thought.
